On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, workers at WinCo Foods in South Salt Lake voted to join Teamsters Local 222. We are happy to welcome our new WinCo members. These workers stood up to their employer who fought against them every step of the way. “The solidarity among the workers was inspiring,” said Spencer Hogue, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 222. “They showed no fear when the company tried to crush their efforts.”
“After nearly a year of concerted effort by our organizers, we’re ecstatic to finally become Teamsters,” says Matty Jackson, WinCo employee. “Though we are the first fully unionized WinCo grocery store in the nation, we’re all looking forward to joining our sisters and brothers at the Modesta and Woodburn WinCo Distribution Centers in bargaining for better wages and working conditions. Going into negotiations we are looking for livable wages, a reasonable attendance policy, and protection from hour cuts while keeping our existing benefits. We hope that management will recognize our demands as reasonable and common-sense and join us in working towards our mutual goals of employee ownership and serving the community of South Salt Lake.”

This is the first WinCo Foods Store in Utah to join the Teamsters and we are looking forward to representing these workers. We are proud of the efforts of all the employees, and the powerful message this win sends about the importance of employee rights.
